Application for the Peter Langemann, Keith Francis & Jonnie Popel Memorial Scholarships

Applications missing required information and documents will be disqualified.

The SMRID awards up to (15) annual scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each to students who either:

- are ratepaying irrigators within the District*
- are children of ratepaying irrigators within the District
- are a spouse to a ratepaying irrigator within the District
- have a parent or spouse employed by ratepaying irrigators within the District
- area student or spouse of an employee of the District
- were themselves employed by the District in the summer preceding the year for which the scholarship was applied
- are enrolled in an agriculture related diploma, certificate or degree program at an accredited post-secondary institution.

and

are entering 2nd year and higher of a recognized university, college, or technical institute or entering Internship/Co-operative work term.

The student must be entering 2nd year or higher of full-time study at a recognized university, college or technical institute. Preferential consideration will be given to students enrolled in an agriculture-related program of study. Preferential consideration will also be given to students who have NOT received a SMRID-issued scholarship in the past.

This application, must include a copy of the student’s transcript showing the courses taken and grades received during their post-secondary education, and confirmation of enrollment, and must be received at the SMRID office by AUGUST 31st.

Funds will be disbursed to successful applicants in two equal installments upon receipt of proof of registration from the university, college or technical institute.

Available funding:

15 Scholarships valued at $2,000 each.

Criteria:

Successful applicants must be full-time students. Preferential consideration will be given to students enrolled in an agriculturally related program of study. Funding is determined based on academic merit anda cumulated GPA, and education and career goals, not financial need.  First-time applicants will have priority over previous recipients.

Applicants shall:

- provide marks from all previous year’s post-secondary education
- provide outline of education and career objectives
- provide official confirmation of full-time registration in first semester
- after completion of first semester, provide proof of successful, completion and official confirmation of full-time registration in second semester (does not have to be consecutive semesters, but
should lie within institute’s calendar year - i.e.: Sept. 1 to Sept. 1)
- provide proof of eligibility if requested by the District

An application may be reconsidered if a student changes his/her course of study after the initial award.

Payments will be distributed in  two equal installments upon receipt of above confirmations to successful applicants as follows:

-$1,000 after confirmation of registration in first semester.
-$1,000 after receipt of successful completion of first semester and registration in a second semester
