August Irrigator Update – Shutoff Date and Allocation

Aug 29, 2025

Dear Irrigators,

Based on our current water supply and winter storage level targets, our Board has determined the allocation will remain at 12-inches.

This allocation and current water supply will enable water shutoff for the 2025 irrigation season to take place on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

Below is the most recent information regarding our water supply situation and storage:

Due to sufficient rainfall this irrigation season, the combined storage for SMRID Reservoirs is average for a non-drought year. Despite decreased irrigation demand in July due to sufficient rainfall, we anticipate our winter levels will be slightly-below targeted storage for winter 2025/2026.

Irrigators can purchase/sell water allocation from/to another irrigator for the remainder of the 2025 water season. Visit https://smrid.com/__marketplace/ for more information on active sellers and buyers. Please contact the Lethbridge office at 403-328-4401 to add your name to our Marketplace.

Thank you to Irrigators for continuing to irrigate responsibly. The Board is confident that the adequate rainfall, in addition to a 12-inch allocation in 2025, will result in sufficient winter storage levels and are optimistic for the 2026 irrigation season.

Sincerely,

David Westwood
