Dear Irrigators,
Based on our current water supply and winter storage level targets, our Board has determined the allocation will remain at 12-inches for the remainder of the 2025 irrigation season.
This allocation and current water supply will enable water shutoff for the 2025 irrigation season to take place on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
Please ensure you have filled your dugouts before this date and ensure you have checked your valves/works are shut off prior to the start of the 2026 water season.
Below is the most recent information regarding our water supply situation and storage:
Due to sufficient rainfall throughout the 2025 irrigation season, the combined storage for SMRID Reservoirs is average for a non-drought year. With continued warm weather, irrigation demand has remained steady throughout September. We anticipate that winter levels will be slightly-below the targeted storage for winter 2025/2026.

The Waterton and St, Mary Reservoirs continue to be drawn down as needed. Alberta Agriculture &Irrigation (AG&I) will allow St. Mary Reservoir to drop below the spillway sill to allow cathodic protection testing. Ridge Reservoir has been drawn down to allow sufficient room to rebound during the shutdown of irrigation flows.

Thank you to Irrigators for continuing to irrigate responsibly.
Sincerely,
David Westwood
General Manager
St. Mary River Irrigation District
