Canada Post Strike: Billing Update

Dear Irrigators,

We understand the ongoing Canada Post strike may cause inconveniences for Irrigators and customers. We appreciate your patience as we navigate this together.

Billing and Accounts Receivables:

Due to the ongoing postal strike, paper bills will NOT be mailed and payment deadlines remain the same.

2024 Deadlines:

Payments for Irrigation rates (permanent acres) and Leases are due by December 31, 2024.

Keep your account up-to-date by:

  • Calling or emailing us for your balance
  • Visit our Bow Island, Taber, or Lethbridge offices to pay your bill in-person.
  • Ensuring we have an up-to-date email on file so we can send your bill VIA email during the postal strike:

How Do I Make a Bill Payment?

  • Please DO NOT mail payments at this time.
  • Cash – In person, during business hours.
  • Cheque – Bring in your cheque during business hours.
    • Please note: After-hours drop-offs are not accepted in Taber. After hours drop-offs can be made at the Bow Island office using the mail slot in the door, or in Lethbridge at the drop box outside the doors at the Lethbridge office during non-working hours. Please note our offices will be closed at 12:00 p.m. on December 24 and will re-open January 2, 2025.
    •  Office hours for all locations are listed at the bottom of this email.
  • Debit card is only accepted at the Lethbridge and Taber offices.
  • Set up Online banking/payment through the following institutions: (Your Account Number is required)
    – ATB Financial
    – Royal Bank of Canada (RBC)
    – Bank of Montreal (BMO)
    – CIBC
    – Scotia Bank
    – All Credit Unions

For customers that do not bank with the above financial institutions, you can send your payment by E- transfer.

Email to use: jlam@smrid.com
Password: Input your SMRID account number as shown on your invoice.

Please note: If your SMRID account number is less than six digits, put zeros before your number so that the number adds up to six digits; however, if your financial institution requires nine digits, add zeros before your number so that our account number totals to nine digits.

Example
If your account number is 12345, input our account number as follows in your online banking:

  • If your bank requires six digits – 012345
  • If your bank requires nine digits – 000012345
